DIY: RAM Installment for Apple Macbook

This entry will give you an overview of how to install RAM for Apple Macbook on your own. It is very simple and easy process. The main tool needed is 1.4mm screwdriver. Usually that screwdriver is sold in one set of screwdriver (6 pieces at least). Besides that, one thin ruler or a coin is needed as well. Now you’re ready to DIY.

Before process, please be reminded that Apple computer machines are extremely sensitive of the kinds of RAM being used. In this entry or my case, I used Corsair Brand. I have done quite a number of researches in this field. Most comfortable brands would be Corsair and Kingston. Besides that, make sure that the clock speed/frequency is the same as your original RAM of your Apple computer machines.

Step 1:
You have your ruler ready and used the edge of the ruler to turn around to unlock the battery which is located at the back of the Macbook. Then, took it out of the battery.

Step 2:
Now you will see a metal plate covering the edges of area. Using the 1.4mm screwdriver to unscrew the three little screws/nuts. *First timer will be abit tough to unscrew* Then, slowly take out the metal plate, the metal plate will be something like “L” shape.

Step 3:
Now you will see two slots (RAM slots) and one slot for harddisk (on the side corner). There will have a handle at the RAM slot each. Pushing the white handle and *pop* the RAM will be released from the slot. Then, take out the RAM slowly and carefully.

Step 4:
Now it is time to get your own RAM. In my case, I have just bought 2GB Corsair Brand. After removing the original RAM, then inserting 2GB Corsair Brand into the same slot. Pushing it quite hard until you hear a *snap* sound. Don’t worry too much, just keep pushing it harder since it is quite tight.

Step 5:
Now it is time to pack everything back to the original state. Insert back the battery and switch on your macbook. Pray hard and cross your finger tight!! If no *beep beep* sound, then you are half way there. First time boot into your mac OSX will be quite slow abit due to check the newly installed RAM. After success boot into your mac OSX, go Finder > About this Mac. It should give you a new amount of RAM. In my case, it will be 3GB (1GB + 2GB) RAM.

Addition:
If you are thinking of installing a new HDD (harddisk), it is very simple as well. Just follow Step 1 and 2. Then, just pull out the white stripe from the HDD slot. Now you need another tool for to remove the HDD casing. The tool is Torx T8 screwdriver. Just unscrew it and put the casing back to your new HDD, don’t forget to pack everything back to the original state. *WALLA* You have just install HDD on your own.
