KCBA PC Fair

Last week ago, there held a PC Fair or Sarawak ICT Expo in Kuching (Permata Carpark Building) on 30th November till 2nd December 2007. I’m not sure how on earth PIKOM did not organise in Kuching city. This ICT Expo was organised by KCBA(Kuching Computer Business Association).

I went on the first day (30th Nov) with couple of my friends. It was quite a sad and horrible incident. Tsk Tsk Tsk.

Next Mobile OS: Android Platform

I’m sure some of you have heard about google phone (GPhone) rumors. Sadly, there is not. But “they” come out with mobile related product, which is Android Platform, AKA the next mobile operating system. Google’s Sergey Brin and Steve Horowitz discuss the availability of the SDK, that it will be open source in the future, and demo applications on the Android platform.

Quite impressive, it uses OpenGL technology and best of all, open source which using Linux OS. In the demo video, it shows few couple of applications, such as google maps, sms texting and quake game running in mobile platform. The SDK is currently available for download.

New Sony Ericsson Mobile Phones

Sony Ericsson just announced 2 new walkman series and 1 new K series mobile phones, K660, W380 and W890.

So what’s new?

K660 is a HSDPA headset with new web-enable application, such as Google Maps for Mobile. Rest of the features are the same or similar like older version of K series, such as bluetooth, FM radio, calenders and etc. It comes with a 256MB Memory Stick Micro. The downside is the camera, which only 2MegaPixel (MP). Currently it is said that it only targets at the “selected markets“, mainly is Europe by next year (2008).

W380 is a clamshell walkman series with cool “goodies“, and minus 3G connectivity. So what’s the goodies hidden inside? They are Walkman Player 3.0, gesture control, SE’s trademark Track ID and music controls on the back of w380. Gesture control is something like wii-control, which uses sensor technology. The appearance is quite stylish (by the way, I like the purple theme…   )

W890 is a candybar walkman series with cool “goodies” and 3G HSDPA. Cool goodies include SensMe tempo, mood detector and with 3.2MP camera. That’s so great :!: Again, it is said that it only targets at the “selected markets” as well. It will “drop” by next year (2008).

Opera Mini 4 Beta

Last week ago, Opera just released new beta for desktop browser(9.50) and Opera Mini ( 4 beta 3). I have test out both of the software. I would say it was a great experience use these two softwares. I just briefly talks about opera browser for desktop. It is much lightweight and smooth scrolling. I have use firefox, which I find out that sometimes it does lags or freezes when loading javascript pages/sites, for an example like my own blog.

Apart of that, Opera release new product, Opera Link. It is a way to keep your web surfing activity synchronized across all the browsers you use, on multiple desktops and mobile devices, even if they aren’t all running Opera browsers!

Opera Link is integrated into both Betas. There’s a Synchronize Opera… item in the Opera 9.5 File menu and also at the bottom of the Opera Mini start page. Click either one and you are prompted for your My Opera account and password. If you don’t have an account, there’s a Register button on both the desktop and mobile Opera Link login screens. Once it’s started, Opera Link silently synchronizes any changes you make to your bookmarks or Opera Speed Dial shortcuts across all copies of Opera 9.5 or Opera Mini 4.0 Beta 3. Changes also show up on a personalized page at link.opera.com where you can login and use your bookmarks and speed dial from any browser, anywhere. Opera Link is very user friendly, you just log into it once and then use your browser to create bookmarks just as you would normally, but with the Opera Link your bookmarks now follow you wherever you go.
