Yesterday I had just went to Kuching Festival 2008. What is this Kuching Festival? It is the Kuching city celebration in Sarawak state of Malaysia on every month of August. It starts at first of August until the end of the month (24th). The first day will have a Kuching street parade at there. This year not much happening at there compare to the past years. The main event is always the food section, there sells ton of various of food.

I went at there quite early due to less traffic. Late night will be pretty crowded as usual. Even at this early, there are still quite a number of people. I just went to ‘tapao’ or take away food.

As you can see a lot of empty tables and chairs. But wait until you see at the other side.

Guess this side must be good ‘fengshui‘. Haha. Other than food section, there also has a garden show. This place is for sightseeing. Good for couples. Hehe.

Basically you will see this ‘thing’ as pretty scenery. Look below

Yea.. mini-fountain

Big fountains.. or waterfall this time.
Well you should be able get the idea. There is also a mini-stage at there for some night performers. Usually it will have some hip hop dancing at night.

Lastly there has one section that selling some stuff, such as cars booth, household products and etc.
One more thing. I have encountered some odd incidents at the food section.

Eragon? Eragon the movie. gosh~

Dragon ball? Dragon ball the movie? Fyi, the movie will be out soon.
Btw, today is a great day because of 080808 and also Olympic newly starts. Enjoy good life

Last Wednesday ago, my friends and I went to quite a new cafe (in Kuching) after we had finished our movie marathon (Red Cliff and The Dark Knight). The sort of new cafe in town is located at Jalan Simpang Tiga. In simplicity, it is located next to Swinburne Sarawak (my current university) or opposite tHe Spring. It is 2-levels cafe, the ground floor is a Malay-like buffet with ala carte and the upper floor is a unique, upscale and trendy cafe which sells western food. By now, you should have know that this cafe is a malay cafe based on the spelling, ‘atmosfera‘.

We just went to the upper floor to have a drink. The environment was really trendy and a good place for chit-chatting. If I’m not mistaken, there had a total of 3 LCD TVs installed.

We didn’t try out the food. The drinks at there were quite nice but a bit slow for waiting time. How about the price? Not so cheap by comparing to normal kopitiam. Haha. The price was similar like Starbucks.

We sat at the nice area which could saw the outside environment, tHe Spring shopping mall (based on the above picture). We all enjoyed our drinks. I ordered tiramisu ice-blended, it was just simply nice and the creamy on top of it. It is well-blended, not like at Starbucks. At Starbucks (Kuching), you ate the ice instead of drinking. It costed RM11.50

I had just went to this small mall not long ago. This small mall is called, Green Heights Mall, which is located in Green Heights Housing (not far from Kuching International Airport). GHM is official launch last month ago (June). It is rather small, only 2 floors (excluded basement). I have just noticed something odd, most people no idea what is the name of this small mall, but they only know ‘Cold Storage‘.

Cold Storage is a supermarket but with ton of imported goods. If you looking for rare imported food, Cold Storage is the only solution. But remember, the price tag is rather pretty handsome. It can be said that majority of the goods at there are rather pricey compare to our normal supermarket.

Do you know how much this 400ml coca cola cost? RM6.99 That’s a big ‘WOW‘. Besides Cold Storage, there is another very familiar outlet. It’s called ‘Desserts‘, selling overprice ice-cream. If I’m not mistaken, this outlet is the third branch of Desserts, firstly opened at Boulevard then tHe Spring. It is free to try the ice-cream, and of course you feel awkward if you no buy any after you’ve tried-out.

On the top floor, nothing much to see. It is rather ‘blank’. Only a few outlets at there. There’s one unique outlet, called ‘Got Gift?‘. It is a gift shop, but rather selling unique goods/toys.

ITFusion (my first part time job’s company) is at there, but rather small. Hopeless. ITFusion is an authorized Apple reseller.

Fyi, the GHM site is now in html version (which is done by me) and i guess ITFusion boss might change abit himself, previously it was flash site.

Yesterday (9th July), there was a sneak preview of RainForest in two places, tHe Spring and Boulevard. I went to tHe Spring instead. The event started at 7pm until 9pm.

The Rainforest World Music Festival is an annual 3-day music festival celebrating the diversity of “world music” formerly known as ethnic music held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, that consists of cultural and musical workshop-oriented daytime events and the more concert-like music performances during the night. - wiki
I only managed to catch the Indian performers (Oikyataan). Honestly, this is not my cup of tea. I was at there around 7pm but the event had not yet started. It was not so crowded in that time. Sadly I didn’t manage to catch sweet girls Kan’id performs. The girls are just great.

In fact, I planned to go to RainForest, but it turned out that my friends not so willing to go. Maybe next year. This year (2008) performers are Ross Daly Quartet (Greece), Kasai Masai (Congo/UK), Hiroshi Motofuji (Japan), Oikyataan (India), Cholo Valderamma (Colombia), New Rope String Band (UK), Yakande (Gambia/Guinea), Pinikpikan (Philipppines), Adel Salameh (Palestine), Fadomorse (Portugal), Beltaine (Poland), Sheldon Blackman & The Love Circle (Trinidad & Tobago), Orchestra Anak Jati Bisaya (Sarawak, Malaysia), Sarawak Cultural Village (SeniDa), Kan’id (Sarawak), AKASHA (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) and TUKU KAME (Sarawak). A total of 16 confirmed performers will be in Rainforest World Music Festival on July 11 to 13.

Last couple of months ago, Kuching just had a so-called-donuts shop, Big Apple. It was very popular especially in the KL (Kuala Lumpur) there. It was superb-duperb packed/crowded. Big Apple (Donuts & Coffee) is opened in tHe Spring, again. As usual, it is superb packed with those desperate people. *nah, i weren’t one of them*

I went there because of my sister, after watching Phua Chu Kang performances. Thanks to her, I waited for like 15minutes. Hell yeah~!!! *If I’m not mistaken, that day was a week or so since it opens* The below is a list of the donuts available.. Yummy

Donuts are selling like hot cakes, oops hot donuts. The staff are hell busy like bees. Hmm, reminds me of ‘Bee movie‘, it is a great 3D animation movie and with great humor.

Sadly, Big Apple is a very small place. It is not like ‘Starbucks‘, where you can sit down and enjoy your meal or drinks. Not all donuts are nice to eat. Some i feel ‘kena’ cheated by the cool name given. Fark~!

Below is what I have bought. As you can see, the left hand side are yummy, whereas right hand side are worst and yucks, especially that ‘Pink Panther‘
